Our philosophy around Jiu-Jitsu and grappling is governed by the principle of obtaining power over an opponent through the application of superior technique.
Superior technique is a force multiplier and allows smaller grapplers to gain control and power over larger opponents. We utilize leverage to gain mechanical advantage over our opponent to reduce any strength advantage they may have. On the mat we have witnessed David beat Goliath time and time again, and women overpower and control men multiple times their own size!
Not all Jiu-Jitsu is created equal, and we don't teach it that way.
You can't go wrong taking an opponent's back and putting them to sleep with a Rear Naked Choke, or employing a two-on-one grip and using a Kimura to gain compliance. But try to invert while on the street and you might find out that you're allergic to getting kicked in the face. Our philosophy is that both schools have their merits, but to
use the right tool for the job. It is for this same reason, that not all Jiu-Jitsu is equal that we train for the season we're in. During the warmer months we focus on no-gi grappling before migrating into a gi during the colder months.
Jiu-Jitsu is an evolving martial art, and there is always something new that can be learned regardless of skill level. We encourage and thrive on our students asking questions! Through asking questions we are better able to serve you, our students, and provide immediate feedback. Jeremiah and Ryan love to dissect and workshop techniques to not only answer if something would work, but why it works.
Our kid classes are in full swing on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 PM, and the mats are filling up quickly with eager students from ages 5-13! Read more about our kid's classes here!
